Scholarship Eligibility and Selection Procedures
Eligibility for Scholarships
To be considered for scholarships awarded by the College of Natural Sciences, you must:
- be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (some exceptions may apply);
- be accepted for admission to Colorado State University (new freshman or transfer student)
or a continuing student in one of the majors or open-option programs in the College
of Natural Sciences on or before February 15, 2008. If you have a double major, you must
declare your primary major in the College of Natural Sciences.
- be a full-time continuing Colorado State University student (12 credits) for the 2008-2009
academic year. Dropping below full-time may
result in forfeiture of the scholarship.
- meet other special requirements as noted.
Selection Procedures
All complete applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Scholarship Committee,
consisting of a faculty representative from each department in the College. Each application
is independently assessed by at least two reviewers. Based on the assessments of all
applications, the Scholarship Committee recommends to the Dean or his designee those
applicants best qualified to receive awards. All scholarship recipients will be notified
in writing by late Spring 2008.
Awarding of Scholarships
Students who have been selected to receive a scholarship are asked to formally accept or
decline the scholarship funds by filling out and returning a form to the Scholarship
Committee. Scholarship funds will be transferred directly into the recipient's Colorado
State University student account in two installments, one-half for fall semester 2008,
and one-half for spring semester 2009, unless otherwise noted. If a student enrolls in
only one of the semesters, he or she will receive only one-half of the award. Students
must be enrolled full-time at Colorado State University at the same time the account
is credited. If a recipient chooses to decline the scholarship, the Scholarship Committee
will review and reconsider all appropriate applications and select another recipient.
The College will retain all applications through spring semester 2009.
Requirements to Maintain a Scholarship
A scholarship recipient must maintain a cumulative grade point average
of at least 3.0 (2.25 for need-based) and be enrolled for no less than 12 credit
hours in order to qualify for the second semester of his/her award. A recipient is
also required to promptly report any change in credit hours carried or major field of
study to the College of Natural Sciences Dean's Office. Recipients must help the Scholarship
Committee promote the College's Scholarship Program by attending an awards ceremony,
luncheon, and other public functions.
Concerning Renewability of Scholarships
Most Scholarships available through the College are not automatically renewable. An
individual awarded a non-renewable scholarship in one academic year must re-apply for
an award in subsequent years, but there is no guarantee that another award will be received.
If awarded a scholarship that is considered renewable, the awardee must still re-apply
each year in order to verify that the conditions and criteria pertinent to that
scholarship continue to be met.
