Undergraduate Programs in the College of Natural Sciences

To the Scholarship Applicant:

The College of Natural Sciences is home to over 3,000 undergraduate students. These include the best and brightest in the University as witnessed by the fact that almost 30% of all students in the University Honors Program are enrolled in our College. The College houses 8 departments offering curricula leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in ten different undergraduate majors: applied computing technology, biochemistry, biological science, chemistry, computer science, mathematics (including a concentration in statistics), natural sciences (with concentrations in science education), physics, psychology, and zoology.

Students in these majors are instructed by scientists and scholars having national and international reputations in their fields. As a result, our students receive education and training that place them at the cutting edge of their disciplines. A high percentage of our students are engaged in undergraduate research projects under the direction of faculty mentors. The combination of high quality students, instruction at the cutting edge, and an emphasis on experiential training enables our students to win national scholarships and fellowships, gain entry to quality graduate and professional schools, and obtain rewarding positions in private sector employment.

Alumni and friends of the College of Natural Sciences and its eight constituent departments have generously provided the financial support that permits us to offer the scholarships and awards detailed in this directory. They have done so because of their desire to ensure that motivated and intellectually talented students have access to the world-class programs offered through the College.
