Scholarship Application Process
The scholarship application process has closed for 2008. To apply for scholarships, follow the directions below and complete the CSU Scholarship Application (CSUSA), available online beginning December 1. The deadline is March 1 at 11 p.m. (MST).
The following
application process can be downloaded as a PDF.
Are you applying for a merit scholarship, a need-based scholarship, or both? Based on your answer,
complete the following requirements:
- Applying for a Merit-Based Scholarship
To be considered for all merit-based scholarships awarded by the College
of Natural Sciences and its departments, you must complete the first two steps by Friday, February 29, 2008, and the third step by March 1, 2008.
- Two Letters of Recommendation
Please submit two (2) letters of recommendation from individuals who know you well and can speak
for your past academic accomplishments and your potential for future academic success.
- If you are an incoming freshman, at least one letter must be from a high school teacher. Letters of recommendation are taken very seriously and are to address your academic record. Leters from teachers are the ideal.
- If you are a current CSU student or a transfer student, at least one letter must be from a professor,
preferably one in your major. College students should not use high school teachers as recommenders.
Letters of recommendation must be:
- on official letterhead paper
- sealed in an official envelope with a signature or
official stamp across the seal
We will not accept: faxed letters,
letters on plain paper, copied letters without an official stamp or
original signature.
- Transcripts
- Incoming freshmen: this must be an official high school transcript, sealed in an official
envelope with a signature or official stamp across the flap. We do not have access to materials
sent to Admissions or other offices at CSU.
- Transfer students: please submit an official transcript from all postsecondary schools you have
attended.
- Continuing CSU students: submit unofficial transcripts from the Registrar's office or RAMweb.
If you use RAMweb, make sure your cumulative GPA is noted on the transcript as well as your CSUID.
Submit your letters of recommendation and your transcripts to the College of Natural Sciences Dean's
Office in one packet.
- Complete the CSU Scholarship Application (CSUSA)
To apply for scholarships, complete the CSU Scholarship Application (CSUSA), available online beginning December 1. The deadline is March 1 at 11 p.m. (MST). Go to RAMweb at ramweb.colostate.edu and login using your eID (eName and ePassword). Then select the CSU Scholarship Application link. Be sure to complete the College of Natural Sciences section of the CSUSA.
Complete the "Extracurricular Activities," "Awards/Honors/Scholarships," and "Goals" sections of the CSUSA
application carefully. The Scholarship Committee is particularly interested in your previous activities and
achievements in the area of math and science. Be sure to list all of your activities, achievements, and
awards completely. Also, be sure your statement of "Goals" clearly addresses the questions asked in that
section. Proofread these sections carefully! Don't rely on your computer spell check. If you already
completed these sections, you can go back and make changes.
- Applying for a Need-Based Scholarship
Complete and submit your FAFSA form as early as possible. It generally takes several weeks to process,
and we must know your financial need status when we consider your application in April.
NOTE: Incoming freshmen and transfer students are not eligible for CNS Need-Based Scholarships.
- Both Merit Scholarships and Need-Based Scholarships
Complete both sets of requirements listed above.

March 1, 2008. Please submit your letters of recommendation and your transcripts in one packet.
