Fall 2009 Commencement

The deans, faculty, and staff of the College of Natural Sciences congratulate you on your upcoming graduation from Colorado State University!

The College Commencement Ceremony individually recognizes bachelor’s graduates and their achievements. The Graduate School, in a separate ceremony, honors master’s and doctoral graduates. For Graduate School information call 970.491.6817.

The following College Commencement information will prove helpful as the ceremony approaches. Please read it thoroughly. Time and Date: Saturday, December 19, 2009, 9:00 a.m.

Place: Moby Arena, CSU Campus

Check-in for all graduates is in the Intramural Gym of 7:45 a.m.

Line-up - You must be checked in and lined up under the department sign for your major no later than 8:30 a.m.

At check in, you will pick up your name card which you will give to the announcer who will read your name, major, and honors as you receive your diploma cover. Because of the large number of graduates that must be accommodated, this can be a time-consuming process. We ask that you please be prompt.

Caps & Gowns:

RENTAL IS ON A CASH ONLY BASIS
Rental costs are as follows:
Bachelor's cap, gown, and tassel: $ 19.50
Bachelor Honor's Program green gown, gold stole,
and green cap and tassel
$ 19.50
Extra souvenir tassels (green, gold, or degree colors) $ 7.00

Distribution at the Lory Student Center, Room 228, on Wednesday and Thursday, December 16th and 17th, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

As a LAST RESORT, regalia may be rented one hour prior to your ceremony at the Moby Arena Intramural Gym on Saturday, December 19.

Caps (mortarboard caps) are one size fits most and are yours to keep.  Graduates requiring sized caps must return them immediately after the ceremony and exchange them for their souvenir cap.

Gown Return  - Immediately following the ceremony, robes should be returned to the Moby Arena Intramural Gym. You may keep your cap and tassel.

Late charges will be incurred for late returns.

The tassel color for Natural Sciences is yellow gold and the tassel is yours to keep.  Tassels are worn on the left side and moved to the right during the ceremony.  Your mortarboard caps should be worn level, not tilted.  In recognition of the tradition and dignity of the graduation ceremony, we request that you maintain an appropriate appearance by not decorating your regalia in any way.


Announcements: For customized orders (with student's name imprinted), a company representative from CB Graduation Announcements will be present on October 13, 14, and 15 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Flew Market area (outside the University Bookstore) to take customized orders. After October 15, orders can be placed at www.cbgrad.com or by calling 800-433-0296. Customized orders are returned within seven days of being ordered.

Generic announcements (non-personalized announcements) can be purchased at the University Bookstore anytime.


Diplomas: Graduates will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony - actual diplomas are mailed approximately six weeks after commencement. If you cannot attend the ceremony, you may pick up a diploma cover from the Provost's Office or have one mailed to you for a postage fee. Undergraduate diploma cover is $3.00; Graduate diploma cover is $4.95. Call 970.491.6614 for more information. Your actual diploma is mailed to you approximately six weeks after commencement.

Pictures: Professional photographers will take your picture as you receive your diploma. Grad Images of Tallahassee, FL, will contact you directly about your proofs three to four weeks after the ceremony. Tickets: No tickets will be issued. You are encouraged to invite as many guests as you wish. As a courtesy to other guests, we ask that you do not block off rows of seats.

Seating: There is no reserved seating. Guests should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony, which begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Disabled Seating/Access: For information about elderly or disabled accommodations, please call the dean’s office at 970.491.1300.

Parking: Since Friday, December 18, is the last day of final exams and a typical workday, regular A-permit parking zones (Faculty and Staff zones) will be enforced until 4:00 p.m. on the main campus and in the Moby Arena Lot. Visitors can park in the Z (commuter) zoned portion of the lot west of Moby Arena, as well as any other Z (commuter) lots on campus. No parking is permitted in the 20 minute Loading Zones, red/fire zones, and No Parking/Undesignated Areas.

Free parking for visitors is available in the lot west of Moby Arena or anywhere on campus (that is not a 20-minute loading zone, metered zone, or red zone) beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, December 18, through Saturday, December 19 . Visitor parking permits are also available, for a $2 fee, at University Parking Services, Green Hall, for those who wish to park on campus during enforcement hours. University Policy: It is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages into Moby Arena. Uniformed police officers, event staff, and faculty marshals will be in attendance when you enter the assembly area and throughout the ceremony. In accordance with commencement policies, you may be requested to have robes, purses, etc. inspected as you enter. Inappropriate objects are not allowed and will be confiscated. Guest should refrain from using air horns.

The College Commencement Ceremony is the capstone of your academic experience at CSU. It is a public event that reflects upon you as an individual and the College and University as a whole. Your recognition of the rights of other students, their families, and their friends to enjoy the ceremony free from disruptive or otherwise inappropriate behavior is appreciated.
