Submission Guidelines

Who can submit papers?
Undergraduate students at Colorado State University either taking courses in or majoring in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field may submit papers to this journal. Research involving human subjects or live vertebrate animals must be approved by the Office of Regulatory Compliance. Only research supervised by CSU faculty will be considered for publication.

Example Paper:

Advisor/Mentor Approval:
A hardcopy of the Faculty Approval Form must be signed and returned to the Editor in order for the review process to begin.

Length:
You are limited to between 1500 and 2000 words of text not including references and up to 20 images. Image files can be either tables, graphs, diagrams, equations, or photos. The image files must be scaled no larger than 6.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches high. The resolution must be 150 pixels per inch. Make sure your fonts are legible at this scale. All images must be uploaded as separate jpg files.

Format:
All papers must contain the following elements: Title, Abstract, Body, Acknowledgements, and References Cited. The Body may contain up to five separate sections that can each be divided into at most 4 subsections. Sections can be combined to meet formatting needs. Images (figures, tables, graphs, equations, etc.) and their captions can be inserted at 4 places within each major section.

Spelling and Grammar:
Papers with multiple spelling and grammatical errors will not be accepted. Be sure to not only perform a spell check in your word processor, but also carefully proofread your work. You should also ask your advisor or faculty mentor to read your paper before you submit it.

Scientific Terms:
Scientific terms specific to your discipline must be explained for the general audience. You may use abbreviations but they must be written out on their first instance.

Symbols and Special Characters:
If you are using any web browser but Safari, you will have access to a palette of symbols and special characters. You may also use any symbols and special characters in your figures and tables since you will submit them as jpg images.

Reference Style:
Each discipline has its own preferred way to cite references. Please consult with your faculty advisor/mentor for the most appropriate reference format to use. Web URLs and references to popular media articles are discouraged.

Thumbnail Image:
We encourage you to submit a 1 inch square jpg image at 72 pixels per inch that will be used in the table of contents to call attention to your paper. The image should appropriately fit the subject of your research.

Copyright:
This journal is published under the Creative Commons license and the lead author retains the copyright. Papers that have been previously published in another journal or papers that you intend to submit to another journal are not eligible for publication here. The author may request to have a paper removed from this journal in the event that it gets accepted by another journal. The author is responsible for ensuring that no duplication of papers exists. This is sometimes a rather subjective decision. For example, if a scientist publishes a paper in one journal and then decides to change the title and format for another journal it could be considered a breach of copyright if the paper is not significantly different. To be acceptable, the changes would have to be substantial enough to justify the second publication. When in doubt, consult your faculty advisor.
