14th NSF Workshop on Materials Chemistry and Nanoscience

Workshop Dates:

October 12-15, 2006

About the Workshop:

The Broader Impact of these workshops is that they bring together scientists with common materials chemistry interests from diverse backgrounds including inorganic, organic, physical, biological, polymer, nanoscience, and analytical chemistry as well as other science and engineering disciplines. They provide a focus for the emerging field of materials chemistry from both an educational and a research viewpoint. In addition, they promote dialog and collaboration between industry, government and academic scientists in their endeavor to identify and investigate fundamental and technological problems.

The Intellectual Merits of these workshops are that networked materials chemists will endeavor to generate new science and new collaborative research efforts. Students from Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) can get connected to REU programs, summer internships in industry and national laboratories and faculty at PUIs can also participate in summer research activities. This will create unique opportunities for students and faculty in materials chemistry that will in turn impact our National need for researchers in this science.

This workshop is co-funded by the NSF Division of Chemistry and the Division of Materials Research.
