Beckman Scholars Program 2007
Colorado State University

The Beckman Scholars Program has become a centerpiece of the commitment of
Colorado State University to undergraduate research. This program provides
some of our most highly dedicated students with extensive training in the
critical thinking and laboratory skills that are necessary to conduct
cutting edge research in chemistry and the biological sciences.
The opportunities and recognitions afforded to the designated Beckman
Scholars are recognizable incentives that have been effective in stimulating
university-wide interest in undergraduate research.
Each Beckman Scholar's program runs for 15 months, starting for example on May 30, 2007
and ending August 5, 2008. Beckman Scholars will receive a scholarship for $6,000 for
each of two summers (2007 and 2008) and $4,000 for the 2007-2008 academic year. In addition,
they will receive $850 for travel and supplies each summer and $1,600 for travel and
supplies in the intervening school year.
By accepting the Beckman Scholars Award a
student agrees to perform research activities full-time for ten weeks during the two
summers and part-time (ten hours per week) during the academic year. In addition,
they will attend at least one Annual Beckman Scholars Research Symposium held in Irvine,
California. The 2005 symposium was a two-day, three-evening event held July 28 and 29.
The foundation pays all the expenses for graduating and newly named scholars to attend.
Note: Beckman Scholar applicants must be sponsored by one of ten designated Beckman Mentors.
